Additional Training for Plumbing and Gasfitting
In addition to the National Certificate(s) program, you will also have additional specialist training courses, including Sitesafe passport, Backflow Prevention (optional), Limited Electrical Licence (optional) and Occupational Safety and Health.
These courses are separate to the block courses of your National Certificate, they are all arranged and paid for by the Trust, and take place at various stages throughout your apprenticeship.
Site Safe
On commencement of employment and starting work with the Host Employer, all Trust apprentices undertake the Commercial Passport Sitesafe training.
Limited Electrical Licence
This elective training is provided free to all Level 3 apprentices who request it during their final level of their apprenticeship. Alternatively those who do not undertake it at Level 3, but graduate in both Plumbing and Gasfitting can undertake this training at the Trust's expense within 1 year of leaving the Trust. Those who enrol for this training either as a Level 3 apprentice or as a graduate, will need to pay the tuition costs on enrolment, which will then be reimbursed once the training course has been completed.
Under the current Legislation of the Electrical Workers Registration Board, apprentices who complete this training can however only be issued with their limited electrical license once they have become a registered plumber and/or gasfitter.
Backflow Prevention
Level 3 plumbing and gasfitting apprentices enrol in and undertake a 4 day Backflow Prevention Course that gives them Approved Backflow Testers (ABT) status.
