Application for Employment as an ATT Apprentice

To apply to become an ATT apprentice you need to send it the following documents:

  1. A completed Application Form - this can be completed on-line
  2. Your Curriculum Vitae (CV) - this can also be sent in on-line
Note: In your CV you need to confirm that you are a New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency in New Zealand.
  3. Copies of 2 character references
  4. Copies of your Academic Results, NCEA results and NZQA Record of Learning,
  5. A copy of your Secondary School Testimonial (if you have recently completed school) and any  recent work references
  6. Details of all previous work experiences (if this is not included in your CV)

Suggestion: If you have never worked on a building site or know anything about what a plumber, gasfitter or drainlayer actually does, then thATT recommends you consider contacting one (use the Yellow Pages), and arrange to work for them for a week of your holidays so you can experience the reality of the work you would do as an apprentice.

Such prior work experience will help you confirm your interest in a Trust apprenticeship, and will be an important consideration in the decision about whether or not you are accepted as a Trust apprentice.

If you send in your Application and CV by email, then you will need to send in this other documentation by mail.

Selection Interviews

To be considered for an Interview you must have provided ATT with all of the items 1 to 6 above.  You may or may not be selected for an interview.  If you are not selected you will be advised in writing and your documentation will be returned to you.

If you are selected for an interview you will be advised of the details as to where and when this will be.  You will undertake an evaluation test, including some mathematical calculations and general knowledge, prior to the actual interview itself.

If you are still at school, and your parents wish to accompany you to the interview, they are very welcome to do so; they may also "sit in" on your interview if you agree to this.

At the interview you are expected to present yourself in a well dressed and tidy manner, and to be fully aware of ATT's apprenticeship programme and other content of ATT's website.

You will also be expected to demonstrate your understanding of, and motivation for, a career in plumbing and gasfitting or drainlaying, and to ask relevant questions about such a career.

You will be advised of the outcome of the interview in writing within 5 days of your interview.  If you are accepted as an ATT apprentice, then arrangements will be made to commence you with a Host Employer.  If you are not accepted, you will be advised of this together with the reasons for this decision; all your documentation will also be returned to you by mail.

Applications

You can either complete this application on-line and send your CV as an attachment, or you can print it off and then complete and post it, together with your CV.  In either case you will also need to mail in the other documentation listed above in order to be considered for an interview.

  • Please note your CV must accompany your application. If you are completing this on-line then you will need to have your CV in electronic format so it can be attached.
