Recruitment and Selection

The Trust interviews and selects all its apprentices. The Trust's application form is at the end of this section of the website. This can either be completed "on line" and sent in with the applicant's CV attached, or printed off and mailed along with the CV.

To be actively considered for a Trust apprenticeship, you will need to display the following attritubes:

  • motivation for, and an  interest in, the plumbing and gasfitting, drainlaying or roofing industry
  • the ability to work with your hands and to comprehend written standards
  • a commitment to personal learning
  • well developed oral and interpersonal communication skillls
  • good organisational skills, personal energy and a "can do" attitude
  • good personality, and a well presented appearance

You will also need to meet the following requirements:

  • A personalised CV
  • Academic results (or certificated copies of these)
  • At least two personal references
  • A minimum of one weeks work experience, and a written reference from that employer
  • Hold at least a Restricted Drivers Licence; preferably for a manual vehicle
  • Own a reliable motor vehicle

Successful applicants are offered employment, and then placed as soon as practicable with a  host employer in their region.

These placements can be at any location within New Zealand, but are normally with a plumbing, gasfitting, drainlaying or roofing company located close to where you live.

You could also sometimes be placed with different tradesmen or at another company. This may be necessary in order to train you in a different area within the industry where this cannot be offered by your current host employer.

All placements and any subsequent transfers are done in close liaison between the individual apprentice, the host employer(s) and the Trust.
