For the past two years, Dux has awarded an ATT apprentice with the Dux Scholarship. The scholarship was founded to recognise the highest performing first year ATT apprentice within the plumbing, P&G or P&D classifications.
The Dux scholarship is valued at over $15,000 and in 2016 the Dux Scholarship was awarded to Miguel Tiongson. As the winner of the scholarship, Dux will be covering Miguel’s second, third and fourth year ATT training fees of just under $8,000; whilst Miguel’s host business, Plumbing Express will receive $7,500 worth of Dux products over the remaining three years of his apprenticeship.
Miguel’s determination to secure an apprenticeship and complete a pre-trade before joining ATT was hugely impressive to Dux General Manager Jeff La Haye who described Miguel as ‘humble, respectful and highly driven’.
But, it’s not just the people at Dux Miguel has impressed with his work ethic and ability to complete each and every task to a high standard. Miguel’s host Vince Gregan, Managing Director of Plumbing Express is thrilled that Miguel has been recognised with the Dux scholarship. Vince says that in the 25 years that he has owned Plumbing Express, he has never seen an apprentice like Miguel.
To celebrate his recognition and show his appreciation of his hard work, Vince shouted Miguel a trip home to the Philippines earlier in the year to visit his family.
Although not the reason for his dedication and work ethic, Miguel is extremely appreciative to have been recognised by Dux and is grateful for all the work they do to support the industry. As well as this, he is extremely grateful that he was placed with Plumbing Express as they have gone above and beyond in being a supportive host business and without them, he believes that ‘he wouldn’t be at the stage he is now’.
The Dux scholarship is awarded annually and the qualifying host business will have the opportunity to nominate apprentices they believe are deserving of recognition.
