Licensed gasfitters install and maintain the pipes, fixtures and fittings that supply gas as well as set up, modify and repair current gas fittings. Whether this is on large commercial construction sites or in a residential setting, gasfitting is a hands-on trade which requires technical knowledge and logical thinking.
The trade has a significant shortage of skilled labour, driving demand for qualified tradespeople and heightening future salary potential. Additionally, due to the Christchurch rebuild and Auckland construction boom, employment prospects for gasfitting is likely to remain strong.
An ATT gasfitting apprenticeship is structured over 3 years (6,000 hours) of on-the-job work experience with your host business, as well as 6-7 week-long block courses. On completion of the required unit standards you will achieve the New Zealand Certificate in Gasfitting Level 4. Once licensed, you can further your qualification to become a certified gasfitter.
