Craftsman

This qualification is gained once an apprentice has left the employment of the Trust and has been working in the industry for a minimum of 2 years and passed the necessary examinations.  The total time in training to reach this qualification is 6 to 7 years  

A registered tradesperson may apply to become a Craftsman after a period of 2 years in the industry as a registered tradesperson after having passed the Board's examinations for Craftsman. 

A number of polytechnics, including Unitec, Wintec,Weltec and CPIT offer part time courses to prepare individuals for these exams.
