ATT celebrates its 100th electrical apprentice

A major milestone has been reached by ATT after employing its 100th electrical apprentice, Hamilton local Brooklyn Aperehama, who is completing his apprenticeship with Mech Electrical of Hamilton East.

ATT has experienced substantial growth over the past four years since expanding into the electrical trade,earning it the title of one of the fastest growing employers of electrical apprentices in New Zealand.

The demand for skilled workers in the construction industry is very high across all trades and regions. An estimated 80,000 construction workers are needed over the next five years and a little under half of those need to be trade qualified.

The Government’s new policy, making industry training fees free for the first two years of an apprenticeship for eligible first-time learners, has encouraged more apprentices to take advantage of the opportunity to train.

Helen Stephens, Chief Executive ATT, comments:

“In 2015 we employed our first electrical apprentice from Auckland’s North Shore, and recently we celebrated at our graduation ceremony with some of our first electrical apprentices completing their qualification.All of course are now secure in employment as electricians and have exciting opportunities ahead of them.“

Our apprentices are already well set up having earned through their training, and have the prospects of being a busy employee, or a business owner and leader in the future.Being a tradie is hard work but there’s plenty of gain, especially in a market crying out for their skills,” she says.

ATT provides trade training opportunities for Kiwis and delivers quality tradespeople to the construction industry. It is one of the largest electrical employers and the largest employer of plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying apprentices in New Zealand, with over 28 years of experience employing and managing apprentices in the industry.

Roger Gower is appointed to Chair ATT Board of Trustees

The ATT board is delighted to announce the appointment of Roger Gower as a Trustee and Board Chair. His appointment takes effect from 25 June 2019.

Roger brings to ATT wide experience and strategic ability at the governance level across both the public and private sectors and over a number of industries.

Roger is also Chair of PrimePort Timaru, NZ Food Innovation Auckland (The Food Bowl), NXT Fuels Ltd and CSM Group. He has a BCom from the University of Auckland, an MBA from Massey University and an MPhil from the UK’s University of Cambridge.

Board deputy chair, Neil Gillespie says, “With the recent appointment of Helen Stephens as Chief Executive and now Roger’s appointment as Chair, ATT’s leadership is primed and ready to fulfill its long-term strategic goals, and that of its stakeholders, in growing the business through the services it provides to its apprentices and business hosts.”

Neil also acknowledges the 10 years of service given by outgoing chair, Peter Fitzsimmons. “Peter has been a very steady hand to steer the ATT ship. Our business has grown and strengthened over his tenure and the Board is very grateful for the energy and vision that Peter has given to ATT for nearly a decade. We wish him all the best in his well deserved retirement.”
