Plumbing, Drainlaying & Gasfitting
Licensed plumbers, drainlayers and gasfitters assemble, install and repair the pipes, fixtures and fittings that supply water and gas, or remove wastes. Whether this is on large commercial construction sites or in residential households, plumbing, drainlaying and gasfitting is a hands-on trade which requires the ability to problem solve and manage technical issues.
The trade has a significant shortage of skilled labour, driving demand for qualified tradespeople and heightening future salary potential. Additionally, due to the Christchurch rebuild and Auckland construction boom, employment prospects for plumbers, drainlayers and gasfitters is expected to remain strong.
An ATT plumbing, drainlaying and gasfitting apprenticeship is structured over 5 years (up to 10,000 hours) of on-the-job work experience with your host business, as well as 18 week-long block courses (and night classes where applicable). On completion of the required unit standards you will achieve the New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing , Drainlaying and Gasfitting Level 4. Once licensed, you can further your qualification to become a certified plumber, drainlayer and gasfitter. For more information on certificationship, click here.
